PRESS RELEASE

ADT presents its 24th celebration season’s performance of “Mistletoe”

November 03, 2010

Montgomery, Alabama - The Alabama Dance Theatre will open its 24th season with Montgomery’s holiday production of “MISTLETOE” which will be performed on November 12-14 at The Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. Over 90 dancers and artists participate in this year’s elaborate production which features “Favorite Dances of Christmas” an audience favorite, a world premiere of “The Little Match Girl”, and“ Messiah” with live music.

One of ADT’s signature pieces “Messiah”, choreographed by Amelie Hunter, returns by popular demand to the Davis Theatre Stage. It will be accompanied by the Montgomery Chorale Ensemble and a small orchestra under the direction of Rebecca B. Taylor.

“Favorite Dances of Christmas”, a collage of dances set to beautiful Christmas carols and songs, will feature the return of audience favorites including “Still, Still, Still” and “Little Drummer Boy”, as well as new works, “I’ll be home for Christmas” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.” Santa Claus will perform again in this season’s production.

Resident Choreographer Sara Sanford will premiere a new ballet based on the classic holiday story “The Little Match Girl”. Based on a short story written by Hans Christian Anderson, “The Little Match Girl” tells the story of a dying child's hopes and dreams on Christmas Eve. She fears going home and facing her father's wrath after not selling any matches. She resigns herself to a nook in an alley and lights the matches all through the night for warmth. This abstract retelling of the story appeals to the human spirit of love and compassion that is evoked in the Christmas season.

Sponsors for “MISTLETOE” include Merrill Lynch, WSFA, Cumulus Broadcasting, and Fairfield Inn and Suites, the Montgomery County Commission, the City of Montgomery, along with the Alabama State Council on the Arts.

Performances are Saturday, November 13 at 2:30 p.m.* (children’s performance) and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 14 at 2:30 p.m. at The Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. Tickets go on sale Monday, Oct. 25 and range in price from $10 to $25. All tickets are discounted. Children 12 and under can purchase tickets for $10. Reserved and general admission tickets are available at the Armory Learning Arts Center or by calling the ADT Ticket line at 334- 241-2800.

* After the children’s matinee on Saturday, November 13, children are invited to come on stage and meet Santa Claus and other dancers for $5.00.

** The Alabama Dance Theatre will host a special performance in honor of our Military on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the Davis Theatre. Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the Armory and Maxwell/Gunter ITT.
